Designer Babies

If science, specifically genetic research and engineering, reaches a point where parents could choose physical traits (perhaps personality traits too?) legally for their offspring, would you be one of those people ''designing'' their babies from scratch?Designer Babies
yes. If I had the option to have the best then I will get the best.Designer Babies
I guess human will not be able to see that day, they might want a born soldier like MGS more than a pretty little girl.
I'll make sure nothing goes wrong down there.. but other than that no. I like surprises.
yes. If I had the option to have the best then I will get the best.
What constitutes the best? How would you ''design'' your child?
Probably, yes. I would model him (it would be a blonde caucasian mighty yet arrogant boy) after Arthas and send him alone to the frozen wastes of Greenland in search of the Frozen Throne.
No. I would rather nature take its course.
Personally, I would only like to be able to eliminate genetic diseases, allergies or predispositions for medical conditions. I wouldn't want to control physical features or intelligence. Would you even be able to control intelligence? I guess on some level you could, though upbringing and environment play a role too.

yes. If I had the option to have the best then I will get the best.
What constitutes the best? How would you ''design'' your child?
Granted that what I will find the best may not be the best for others -- I will just make sure that it will be ''designed'' to best survive this world. Good looking, confident, smart, agile, versatile, healthy, etc -- pretty much all of the qualities that we consider positive. This will help my child be on par/equal to the other designer babies and better than the ''regular'' babies. Gattaca yeah.
HELL no.
Well, I'd like to say that I wouldn't interfere, but assuming that the designer baby thing catches on, I wouldn't want my kid to be at a major disadvantage, so I'd probably do it.
No. I would rather nature take its course.
If you had the ability to eliminate a disease or deformity, you still wouldn't do anything?
Why not just clone yourself, you will feel better when your time has come, knowing ''you'' lived on.

No. I would rather nature take its course.
If you had the ability to eliminate a disease or deformity, you still wouldn't do anything?
Well perhaps to make him/her immune from diseases, and to correct deformities, but all the details I would leave to nature.
Why not just clone yourself, you will feel better when your time has come, knowing ''you'' lived on.
You can't clone personality, so is it really you?
id get rid of any disorders or allergies, but id leave the rest the same. having a kid involves passing on your genes to the next generation. if you start messing around with dna for looks, youre really just passing on your whims and fancies. plus id hate to have a fad baby. if we could all choose our babies' looks, id imagine their would be waves of babies with the same looks just like there are currently waves of babies with the same name.
I would change something about my child-to-be only if it involved removing a disease or anything which would majorly cripple its abililty to function normally. I wouldn't go any farther though; entering into deeper territory is screwing with nature just a bit too much.

Preventing genetic disorders etc.: Yay.Anything else: Nay.

well, if you want a cruel answer, you can use your cloned

genetic products to make parts which you might need when you are old,

like a heart or something. of course it is against human rights,

so the main point is whether it will be possible to make it not

human. It is a great advance or fall back, I can't say really. I am not into human clone, but if you talk about control of babe's gene, it sounds a lot like clone to me, both are not nature
