Need new trainers - recommendations?

Afternoon chaps, my Sketchers are falling apart, so I think it's time for some new trainers.
I've never been one to follow the Adidas/Nike trend, so what's a good trainer brand?One of my old work colleagues used to rave about Merrell. I dunno if they're any good.

No, New Balance is much better with cross trainers than running shoes, imo.
