Top 5 Southern Hip-Hop albums?

The South gets a bad name in hip-hop, mostly because people simply don't understand it. To quote the great philosopher Dwayne Weezy Carter, ''if we too simple, then y'all don't get the basics.'' Various movements have originated in the South, ranging from Uncle Luke with the Miami Bass movement to Cash Money and No Limit with the flossin' movement to Lil' Jon with the crunk movement, drawing its fair share of love in the south and criticism everywhere elsewhere. Lately however, the South has been at the top of hip-hop with rappers such as Lil' Wayne, T.I., and Young Jeezy becoming some of the biggest names in the game, and really, it has been a long time coming. With that being said, lets look back at the South and appreciate the cIassics that it has given to us over the years. Like Andre 3000 said at the 1995 Source Awards while accepting the award for Best New Artist, ''the south got something to say.''OutKast- ATLiens''Elevators''

Evolving from the smooth laid back pimp talk of their debut album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, OutKast turned to a more deep and introspective side this time around on ATLiens. This album really marked the beginning the of the transformation of OutKast into what they are today.
OutKast- Aquemini

Evolving even further following ATLiens, OutKast pushed the sound of hip-hop to the limit with this album incorporating funk (funk legend George Clinton is even featured on ''Synthesizer''), blues, reggae, and many more. Aquemini sounds futuristic and almost space age compared to most albums, even compared to albums released now.
Goodie Mob- Soul Food

To sum up this album in one word, it would definitely be ''spiritual.'' Organized Noize laced Goodie Mob up with some of the finest production of any album in hip-hop as well, creating a sound that is distinctly southern. The phrase ''dirty south'' was also first coined on this album.
UGK- Ridin' Dirty
''One Day'' feat. Mr. 3-2 UGK had always been underground and away from the spotlight, but highly respected in the South. Then Jay-Z featured them on his hit single ''Big Pimpin,'' breaking them into the mainstream. Since then they have grown enormously in popularly, no longer one of hip-hop's best kept secrets. Ridin' Dirty was their peak with Bun B and Pimp C effortlessly trading verses back and forth with each other.
Scarface- The Diary ''Hand of the Dead Body'' feat. Ice Cube and Devin the DudeScarface is the general of the South. Starting out with the Geto Boys in the late 80's and then going solo, Scarface really became the first truly respected voice to come out of the South.
