So I just recieved a pop up that then proceeded to try and scan/update my computer and moved it to my virus vault. The thing is it says its a fake alert and free scan. What is this and what should I do with it? Fake alert virus?!?!
Turn it off? Is it like a pop-up like disk cleaner or whatever it was that used to download itself to your comp and ask to do a test run... just close the window and uninstall it or whatever it is... Fake alert virus?!?!
Well it kicked me off the internet when a message appeared saying AVG had detected a virus, so I moved it to the virus vault. Then something popped up trying to do a scan that looked kind of like AVG but I wasn't 100% so I exited it.
I'd run an AVG scan, and if it doesn't pick it up, I'd just forget about it.
One timed that happened to me, some program I didn't have just popped saying I had been infected with trojans and whatnot, it scanned my computer saying I had 1000s of viruses and a pop up appeared saying to download this virus destroyer to fix my computer, so I immediately CTRL/ALT/DEL to stop everything, then I used my own virus scanner and the full scan said I had nothing on my computer what-so-ever. So I think if I had downloaded it, THEN I would have gotten the viruses they said I had. So don't trust it all in my opinion.
Well as soon as it popped up I got rid of it, but what I want to know now is what should I do with the file in my virus vault? Also I am currently scanning my computer.
Maybe this will help.Virus Name:Virus Found Fake AlertPath to File:C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5\V5MXP2ZX\freescan[1].htm
It's spyware, most likely a Trojan. If you download that rouge Ainti-Virus program,it will crash your computer. If you ignore it,it won't just disspear. It latches itself onto your computer. You have to get an advanced program to get rid of it.Some standard programs won't detect it.
that's very good of you. unlike me , where i was looking at ''stuff'', i went to this site that apparently needed you to download a player to watch this ''free stuff''. yeah, so i fell for it, then i got some nasty viruses on my pc lol
kill it with fire!

Usually these fake virus alerts will tell you to download a ''anti virus program'' to get rid of the ''virus''. So click the link to their website, to find the name of this supposed ''product'', but don't download it! Then type the name into google and you should find a fix
Well it finished scanning and is found 19 cookies but nothing else.
AtomicBaconBits what program do you recommend to use to get rid of this?
AtomicBaconBits what program do you recommend to use to get rid of this?
Well, what worked for me was SpyWareDoctor. It locates the spyware, adware, malware or possible trojan quite well.It picked up files that my virus scanner didn't even touch. It let's you permentely delete file, and blow it out.I'm not a crazy expert on this, but it worked for me.The full program does cost $30 a year, though.I also heard SpyBot was good, but I'm not so sure on that.
I work for geeksquad and we see a lot of these there are many different types. I've seen at least 10. IF you can get the webroot system analyzer off there site that is a good scanning program but it won't remove. If that gives you a clean go then alright. But as for removing it if its on your computer it can be a pain.

I remember this really annoying popup which obviously contained a virus, it said ''*insert ridiculous number here* pronagraphic files found on your computer, download our free program to safely erase these files'' funny thing was I was on a brand new computer and it was the 1st time we had used the internet
